How to Save Money During Your Move

Moving can be stressful, not forgetting how expensive it can be as well. Just the thought of the whole process can be overwhelming, especially if you are on a tight budget. However, do not stress over it anymore, as here are a few tips that will help you save a few bucks during your move.

1.Plan in advance

Early planning can save you a lot of stress and money when the time to move comes. You, therefore, want to start planning as early as possible. Come up with a moving checklist as well as a moving budget well in advance. The moving checklist will help you get everything in order for the moving process, whereas the budget will enable you to start saving early.

2.Declutter

If you think that you do not have clutter in your home, think again! When was the last time you decluttered? Decluttering will help you save a lot of moving costs as you won’t have to pay for more luggage, yet it is clutter. Get down to business and start decluttering room by room. Household items that you have not used for more than six months fall under clutter, do away with them. You can decide to donate them or give them to your family and friends. Also, check if you have spices that are past their date and throw them away.

3.Shop around for affordable movers

If you have a truck or can get one from a friend or family member, you can save a lot on the transportation. However, if your only option is working with movers, you want to shop around for affordable movers. Reach out to about three or four moving companies and ask for a quotation. Note that the charges will depend on various factors such as the distance, the amount of luggage, timing, and so on. AAA moving company is a good example of one that is reputable and affordable too.

4.Move during off-peak

Moving during the peak seasons can strain your pocket as the demand for moving services is high. Needless to say, you can also have a hard time finding a moving company. Consider moving during the off-peak seasons as you can get amazing discounts from the moving companies. Additionally, you will be spoilt for choice when choosing the movers as most of them will not be as busy.

5.Do the packing and unpacking

Moving services vary; there is the option of only using the movers to transport the items or having them pack, transport, and unpack the items for you. If you are on a tight budget, the former would be the best option. Collect empty boxes in your home, get some from your close family members and friends, and start packing slowly. Instead of buying more moving supplies, you can DIY some of them. For example, you can use old newspapers to wrap glasses and your photo frames.

Moving does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. By following the tips mentioned above, you can be able to save money during the move.
